TIMING A CORNHOLE TOURNEY ....... We recommend 4 teams per set of rented cornhole boards for a tournament. A typical double elimination tournament lasts 4-5 hours when following these guidelines. That is the best of 3 games in the main (winner) bracket and 1 single game in the loser bracket. So, if you have 20 teams, then 5 cornhole sets minimum should be obtained and the tourney will last about 4 to 5 hours. However, we HIGHLY recommend that you obtain 10 sets in that scenario so that you can cut the play time down to 2 to 3 hours and dedicate 5 sets for the main (winner) bracket games and 5 sets for the loser bracket games.
Regulation cancellation scoring is always preferred by players, but if you want to speed things up, then you can always play "rally scoring" where all points count for the entire tournament OR until you get down to the top 10 teams, then you can transition into regulation cancellation scoring for the remaining games. Some tournaments do this when there are a lot of teams and not a lot of time. To also cut time, you can also do just one game in the main (winner) bracket instead of a best of 3, and one game in the loser bracket. Lastly, you may be limited to how many sets of cornhole boards that you can set up. To determine how much space you will need, measure 6 ft. minimum between board sides and 27 ft. between the front of boards.
